MEET PUKHRAJ & IIRO
moi namaste started as an idea at Pukhraj & Iiro's wedding. In some Indian cultures, it is common practice to give gifts to all the attendees at the wedding. A means to brag about one's family wealth, Pukhraj and Iiro didn't want to turn this custom into a boasting moment. Instead, they decided to use their gift budget to support two local self-help groups that work with mothers to create handmade products that in turn, help support them financially.
The idea was well-received and commended by all guests, Indian and international.
On the suggestion of many Finnish guests, Pukhraj & Iiro started exploring avenues on how to bring "more of India" to Finland. And so, moi namaste was born.
moi namaste doesn't aim to start things of their own, but support the ones who are already leading change. We, at moi namaste, aim to:
- Encourage and celebrate our artisan's authentic crafts and stories
- Empower them to financially support their families and communities as well as lead their own personal growth
- Enable our artisans to reach a global audience
A little more about our founders:
Our founder, Pukhraj, moved to Finland from India in 2015 to pursue a master's degree in Educational Leadership. With 10 years of experience in the education and development sector, she currently works as the Head of Community & Media for a global education not-for-profit in Helsinki. Pukhraj is passionate about supporting the economic and social growth of independent Indian artisans, craft collectives & self-help groups (SHGs) while promoting Indian handicraft & culture within Finnish society.
Iiro, our co-founder, is a logistical expert from Finland. He currently works in Helsinki as the Product Manager for Special Services in the Finnish branch of a global logistics company. Married to Pukhraj, Iiro has seen the harsher life of the Indian artisans and wants to use his logistical knowledge to make moi namaste a success across Finland & the world. He is our main man for all things operations & finance!
